Skin so Green and Fine, Wendy Wheeler.

**
While I am on a theological kick I will set down a thought I had the other day and thought, "I should write that, to remember it."

I heard people talking on the radio, or the television, who were talking about deadly diseases. And I thought, "we all have a deadly disease. It is called Life. Most of us forget that." I was not upset; it was an interesting observation. I felt happy about it: I realized it is much easier to let yourself live if you remember you must die, and resolved to live.

I walked outside and looked at the grass. I realized that each individual blade is life, the entire earth covered with life (since plankton is the grass of the sea). And saw the leaves, and thought about how the hairs that keep my dog warm are dead now and how miraculous that is.

The whole earth shouts life, life, life! with each moment and everything you see.

Keep this in mind in the dark moments, soul, and awe and wonder at the It which smiles at the living of grass.

I love the _energy_ of grass. And trees, and everything else that grows straight up, towards the sun. It seems like absolutely all their effort goes into it-- they never move except to grow, anyway.

I suppose, technically, all our movement goes toward growth too-- you learn something new every day, every new experience makes you a little different. It's harder to see our progress than it is with plants. But it's there.

I like the way you think, you know?

It is important to remember that nobody gets out of this life alive.

Expedition to the Russian Monastery! It is imperative that you accompany me. We're considering a picnic lunch, and I want to know when works best for you.

You did actually reach my cell (wonderful prison that it is,) and not that of the Drs'. However I will forward your well-wishing to them. I only recently discovered that strange feature known as "Voice-Maile," and apologize for not getting back to you. Are you back from vacation yet?

I came to terms with my mortality a long time ago -- death holds no real fear for me, and I'm a happier person as a result.

You're right, too, in pointing out all the amazing things surrounding us -- the simple things that nevertheless remind us on occasion of how important it is to enjoy the life we have now, rather than worrying about whether we'll still have it many years hence. :)
