I've been having a lot of computer crashes and hangs lately when I'm using IE. Problems stop for a while when I clear out my cache and cookies, but come back suddenly and abruptly. For example, today amazon.com told me it thought I was using Mozilla. I only had Mozilla on here seven months ago for two days and uninstalled it with no problems.
I recently updated my virus checker and scanned my system within the past week.
What is going on? Can anyone help? Generally IE just freezes as it is trying to load a page and the entire computer freezes so badly I have to manually shut it off and restart it.
I am using IE 6 on Win98.

I am also thinking about other stuff but that isn't more than ramblings at this time of night.

Why did you get rid of Mozilla? My advice for people having trouble with IE is usually "Go download Mozilla. It's not broken and it blocks pop-ups."

Personally, I tend to recommend Firebird over Mozilla, unless the user really needs the whole suite for some reason.

I recently fixed a broken IE installation that was preventing Outlook from working on someone else's machine. Rolling back and reinstalling didn't help - what I did was run IE setup and choose the same options that were already installed. When setup asks whether it should quit or reinstall all components, choose the latter. That fixed it for the computer I was working on.

The internet seems to hate anything "obsolete" - starting with less than perfectly updated operating systems, to my annoyance.
