1. Why do you write?
Because I want to change people's lives through changing their thoughts. I want to show them that language is beautiful. Because it is something that I can do, and do well, and have a duty to share with others. Because I'm a storyteller while I breathe.
2. Tell me something about green.
One of the most pleasant sounds in the world is that of waking up to the sounds of the tree-leaves rustling over each other. Occasionally this sound invades my dreams so I wake up with hazy images of watching the leaves slide over each other in a forest with the afternoon sun filtering through like glass. They're always aspens.
3. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I would say Bryn Mawr. But there's too much stress there for that to be a good permanent home for anyone. Except possibly M. Carey.
With people I love, and I wouldn't care where as long as I had first amendment rights and didn't wilt in extreme heat. Best if somewhere with nature, but not completely necessary.
4. Where do you feel safe?
Nowhere, with the exception of the homes of two people, Evelyn and Kent. Occasionally sometimes I feel safe in martial arts class, or when I'm playing the piano or writing, but that's because so much of myself is absorbed into the task that it's not a matter of feeling "safe," it's a matter of not feeling anything except an emotion which I can only decribe as "doing the task at hand." So deep that safety doesn't matter, or isn't an issue.
5. How do you feel after a good, long Tai Chi session?
Energized and exhausted. I could (and often have) done such things as gone out to dinner (which normally takes a monumental effort of emotion on my part, as being with people is draining for me) or done another few hours of martial arts or talked until two in the morning. I could also (and often have) just taken a shower and immediately crept into bed and fallen asleep (also a rare occurence).
Happy and mellow, yet knowing I could do still more. Satisfied because of that.
