If you've never read Shakespeare's The Tempest, go and read it. Now.

This wasn't the poem I thought it was going to be when I started, but I like the way it finished.

Prospero's Alzheimer's

My father was once an architect

"I build dreams"
he said
"the stone is only the medium."

His dream before he died
was to come to Milan.

He lost the power to do that for himself
some time ago;

gave it up to others
in small catipulations
through his lifetime
in ways not even he
understood, then.

So I use the small powers I have,
the only ones left to me, money & influence;
(beauty fled me long ago).

I bring him to Milan.

He keeps muttering something about Ariel
as he feeds only the small bird on the windowsill.

Oh, that's good.

The Tempest is one of the plays I like the best. :)

Nice poem...

A typo: I think it's "capitulations".

You have given me a _weird_ new idea to run with about a character of mine. Thank you!
