"Nothing's more satisfying than finding exactly the right solution to a problem. That's the good feeling you get when you give an Asian subsistence farmer a water buffalo."

All really wierd and funny website copy aside, the Heifer Project really is quite cool. The idea is that you give some amount of money to buy people in economically depressed countries some sort of animal, and then they can use that animal to help improve their lives and later pass it or its progeny on to another needy family.

I remember doing this through my church when I was about 10. I bought an entire school of fish for someone somewhere...I'd forgot about that until I chanced upon their website through somewhere else today, but that was one of the neatest feelings I'd ever got, when I raised $20 or whatever it was and got those fish.

Oh, that's so sweet! I'll have to try to set aside some cash to help out too.

My parents have been regularly donating to the Heifer Project for the past several years. I love it when they call me and say, "I'm going to donate something for your birthday. Do you want a goat, or a flock of chickens?"
