It's "Talk Like a Pirate" day, according to Dave Barry. I think - though it's sad that we must declare a day to be given an excuse to talk like a pirate - that this is a great idea. I mean, imagine the effects of pirate speech upon stress-reduction in the workplace!
Boss: Jim, I'm sorry, but you're fired.
Jim: Go walk the plank, me bucko!
Ideally, Jim would have a sword to flourish. Yes, definitely worth it.

19/9/02 12:51 (UTC)Though I confess my local pirates don't talk quite that way. They must have been to the wrong pirate school or something. :-) They'd be more likely to say something like, "Good afternoon, doña. May I be of assistance?" or (ironic tone) "I don't suppose they'd believe we're lost?"
Or, "Oh, better far to live and die / Under the brave black flag I fly / Than play a sanctimonious part / With a pirate head and a pirate heart . . ."
We approve of the sword-flourishing, though.
