I have fixed an error in the journal formatting that caused the name of the month on the calendar view to be the same color as the background.

For those of you not in the know, I watched the horrid movie Army of Darkness with Arc on Sunday night while he was here. :)

It was awful. Then again, it was supposed to be. On a scale of 1-10, with Plan Nine from Outer Space and Santa Visits the Martians as our best - worst? - movies at one, and the interminable special-effects sequences in the first Star Trek movie being a ten, this scored about a three. However, it was hilarious - the kind of movie to watch when all you want to do is the Mystery Science Theater 3000 treatment. Therefore, I present

Everything I Need to Know in Life I Learned by watching Army of Darkness

1.) England in the Middle Ages was a desert.
2.) When you are transported into the past, your car will come with you.
3.) Everyone who was important in 1300 wore bright clothes so you could pick them out from the rabble.
4.) Practice your backflips. You never know when you will need to make a stylish entrance into the Zombie Pit of Doom.
5.) Always bring your highschool science textbooks with you. You never know when they will come in handy.
6.) Skeleton warriors, even though they are dead, brainless automations, will still all wear helmets to protect their heads.
7.) Always be careful about where you leave your silverware, and never leave the oven on.
8.) Drinking boling water doesn't hurt you, but will kill any miniature clones living in your stomach.
9.) After the apocalypse, all the major monuments of the world will crowd together so you can see them all at once.
10.) There is no logical fallacy in the statement, "Protect the necronomicon, or fall into the hands of the damned!"

This may sound apocryphal, but the precursor to Army of Darkness is Evil Dead 2. This is very funny and the special effects aren't quite as good or over the top as in AOD, but it was the original cult classic spoof of horror movies. Every horror movie antic gets ridiculed in that plot and its hilarious. Down to opening doors and things in the cellar and undead vengeful girlfriends. That movie has been sampled by so many industrial music bands, in particular Skinny Puppy. Very funny stuff.

I have a practice with my buddy Rune of intentionally renting really bad movies to laugh at how awful they are. Just MST3K them to hell and back. It makes the video store far more interesting when you stop looking for good movies which are few and rare and instead rent the really bad ones to mock them. There are LOTS of BAD movies waiting for abuse. Abuse them! Abuse them, I tell you!

That counts as self-abuse, so make sure you don't go blind... all that glare, don'tcha know.
