Grandparents

My grandmother has been in the hospital for a week and they have no idea what's wrong with her but she's not well enough to be discharged.

My grandfather forgot who I was today as I was eating dinner with him. That was hard.

**hugs if you want them** My grandmother calls me by my father's name not-infrequently, and occasionally forgets other things which I think of as essential and personal.

It is hard for me to see those essential and personal things going, but on reflection I realized it wasn't hard for him, and that softened the blow somewhat. Names can be forgotten and the love can still be there without them knowing exactly who you are, and that's astonishing.

i'm sorry. that's always hard. i wish i had something helpful to say, but mainly all i've got is that it's hard.

i hope that they figure out what's going on with your grandmother, and that things start to look better on that front.

My mom: do you know who I am?
Him: I know who you are right now sweetie, but by the time I get to that door, I probably will have forgotten.

Love him in the moment. It's enough.

*hugs* I'll definately keep both of them in my thoughts. And while I know it must be very hard for you, I will also keep you in my thoughts and hope for much strength for you. I hope they can figure things out with your grandmother. That must be very frustrating, especially for her.
