So, my new laptop, the one I got in April to replace my old laptop that died, died this morning. Last night i was using it but when I turned it on this morning it decided a fun thing to do would be to boot up and then display the following error message:

error: file not found
grub restore>

typing help doesn't work; all I can get it to show me is some hard drive partitions when I type "ls".

Any thoughts? I am SO tired of having my mobile hardware die on me this year when I need it.

If I had to guess, part of the hard drive is bad, probably the MBR or wherever GRUB lives these days, but I haven't had this particular problem. This page (http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-24113.html) has some ways to repair GRUB.
