So, remember how my computer was working again? It upgraded some Ubuntu packages the other day, and couldn't finish installing them since there was something missing in the upgrade, and threw a bug. And then it went into hibernation overnight, but wouldn't wake up, so I had to do a hard restart. Now I can get to the partition on my drive without any of my data on it, but when I try and boot on the partition with data, I get a kernel error. I've already filed a bug report, but it looks like nothing is happening.

Update: Fuck you universe. I ran a command (sudo update-grub2) that was suggested on the ubuntu forums under my bug, that looked like it would work. However the person specified using it from the hard drive if possible, so I ran it in terminal on the hard drive from the partition that I could boot from. And it TOTALLY cleared out the partition that I WANTED TO KEEP from my boot menu. It doesn't exist anymore as far as I can tell. Anyway, I just lost all my files that I wanted and the photos that I wanted, plus the first part of the new short story I was working on plus the notes for the story. I give up, fuckit. *GROAN*

Update #2: So the partition I want (dev/sda5) is still there according to GParted (partitioning utility). It just isn't showing up on the boot menu at all. The partitioning utility indicates that it does not know what filesystem that partition is, and gives the message, "warning: unable to detect file system! possible reasons are: file system is damaged, file system unknown to GParted, there is no file system available (unformatted)." Any thoughts, at all?

And remember how I was assured, by the woman who helped me fill out the form when I applied for MassHealth the day before my doctor's appointment, that my MassHealth coverage would be retroactive to the date of application? Well, guess what--it's not! I called today to specify my primary care doctor since my packet to do so hadn't come in the mail yet and I want those damned thyroid tests sooner rather than later, and found out that I have to sign up for a secondary health plan, and specify a doctor through that, and my coverage with that plan doesn't start until next Wednesday, and since I went to the doctor last month, Mass Health and the new health plan don't cover me because I was not "active" yet.

So now, after having paid $100 out of pocket to see the doctor, and $15 for medicine, and $22 for medicine again since they didn't give me enough the first time, I now have a bill from the doctor for $130 and a bill from the practice for $135. The bill for the doctor should be reduced to $30 after the fee I already paid is applied, but the bill from the practice I just have to pay straight-up. If I had known I was going to be spending $272 and that it was not going to be covered yet, I would have just waited two weeks to get my new health plan, and then I wouldn't be freaking having thrush relapses due to stress staying up too late worrying about how I am supposed to pay for all of this shit!

I'm really tired of having components of my life, which appeared to be working well and happily, go all to shit.

[Edit: In an attempt to become less stressed out and negative, I decided to make lunch. I thought guacamole would be nice. So I chopped everything up, and then found out the avocado wasn't as ripe as I thought. Okay, I thought. Guacamole tomorrow. Cheesy bread and grape leaves today. In the process of reaching into the fridge I knocked over a tupperware of tofu, which fell on the floor. The lid stayed on, but the tupperware split down the side, leaking water all over the foor. So, I found a new tupperware, but as I was cleaning up the water that had splashed on the bottom of the refrigerator an ear of corn fell out and hit my foot. I give up.]

Families and individuals who get medical treatment within 10 days before the date they apply for MassHealth and who were eligible during that time can request retroactive coverage for their medical bills. Also, clients might continue to receive MassHealth for 12 months after their income has gone above the income limit because of a raise or because they have gone back to work through Transitional Medical Assistance (TMA).

If you can get retroactive coverage of the ten days before you apply, I don't see why you couldn't get retroactive coverage for after you apply but before it's approved. So I'd call MassHealth, explain what happened, and ask how they can help you. (MassHealth Customer Service Center 1-800-841-2900 (TTY: 1-800-497-4648))

Although their website also says coverage is not retroactive to the application date -- but that's for Commonwealth Care.

So it looks like if you have MassHealth Standard, you should be able to get them to cover the doctor's visits you made after you applied, but if you have Commonwealth Care, you can't.

It sounds like life isn't so much handing you lemons at the moment as firing at you from a cannon. :( Here's hoping you can at least persuade someone to agree you were covered, at least.
