Haiku Sadness

For those of you who read
yuki_onna's rant a few months ago on the bad quality of most SF poetry, I think this BoingBoing thread proves her point, unfortunately. I'm not against haiku, and I'm not against poetry about science, and I'm not against living things. But texts and ideas can be formal poetic form and not be, well, poetry--and vice versa (hello, free verse). The form or lack thereof doesn't make a text or idea poetry, and if the text and idea doesn't stand on its own as poetry, putting it in a form or adding line breaks everywhere isn't going to help it--it's just going to show off the inadequacies of the idea.
