Why isn't the "test" noise on a fire alarm something that sounds more pleasant? You need to get so close to it to press the button, and then there's this ear-splitting beep at close range.

You might want to use the fire alarm test to check where in the building the alarm is audible. And wear earplugs if anywhere near it. Ugh.
