Unfortunately, I will not be attending Readercon this year. I had planned on attending for professional & friendship reasons, but a few things happened:

- I don't have an income right now and will probably not be going to any cons this year; it's quite a large expense. Given that I don't live in the Boston area anymore, there would be a lot of travel expenses to get there, a lot of travel and food expenses once I was there, and possible hotel expenses. Can't afford it.

- I have decided, after consultation with [livejournal.com profile] rax, not to get a job immediately. Instead, I have an opportunity to write and otherwise make art full-time for the next few months. I am at a point in my life where I need to take that opportunity. If it works, I believe it will improve my life in a number of ways. If it doesn't work, I will have at least tried that life-path, found that I don't have the chops to do it the way it needs to be done, and try to make my work and life better some other way.

Last year, my pre-Readercon stress levels were quite high--though I enjoyed myself at the con, it did not actually contribute to a drop in my stress levels. Instead, I felt both inspired and anxious to start work, and as if I was not doing anything creatively useful with my life and that the writing I was producing was not of a very good quality. This year, my pre-Readercon stress levels are also quite high, though along slightly different axes. I do not feel it's useful to pause my two months' life-creativity experiment in the middle to go to a function which, though loved, has been verified to make me feel less-creative and more anxious about my capability to produce creative work in general.

- I look forward to reading con reports from those of you who do attend. I will seek them out in the usual places; if you see any particularly good ones you think I haven't, let me know.

- I am sad that I will not be seeing my friends there, but I will be in Boston for a week in August so hopefully can see many of you then. Out-of-town folks, I apologize preemptively for missing you.

I'm sorry I won't see you there, but I understand your reasoning and it sounds like this is very much the correct choice for you right now. I hope I'll see you in August!

Woo! Good luck with kickstarting the creative thing. I've been slowly trying to do the same thing, albet with tons of interruptions from winter depression and pre-moving travel...

That makes a lot of sense, and good luck!

I will be sorry to miss you in Boston in August, but hopefully you will come to Texas and I will go to Indiana and it will be All Cool.

Cool. I hope that this period of creative effort is a good time for you! I'll be looking forward to seeing whatever you end up making.

Understanding the travel/expense, you just moved.
Best settling a tad and discovering all the new stuff.
Curious. What mediums of art?
