Well. I did end up writing more about that article than I thought, and it gave me four story ideas. And another essay idea. Happy. However, I am not going to post it all here. It's long and complicated, and (I think) can be better understood in the context of the discussion from which it sprang.

Therefore, I am providing a link to said discussion, at Baxil's website, tomorrowlands.org, which is a very interesting website overall, and has fascinating message boards which I consider to be the best I've seen so far on the internet.

I cannot provide a link to my individual post, as the message boards don't let you do that, but if you want to read it, it's currently on page two of the discussion, at the bottom, with my name on the sidebar (the same name as on my livejournal, not my 'real life name.' Although I like that one just as much).

Oddly, at this moment I am getting some kind of deja vu. I don't know why; I feel as if I've already written about this before, and added in the same links.

Fascinating. Shall now have to go look over the rest of the website, because that was just an INTERESTING discussion. Other thought, though-- do you read Transmetropolitan? Comic book, Irina and Lila own most of the early stuff (only gonna be 60 issues long, so not back-breaking to read. Pretend that made sense.). Set in a future which has a hell of a lot, culturally, in common with now, and a hell of a lot that isn't. One of the things about the world is that body modification in it is indeed common and popular, for any number of reasons. There are people who add limbs, or replace them with mechanized ones, for convenience. There are people who modify themselves with animal traits for the weekend (gorgeous image of someone being a dolphin for a little while), or permanently, for aesthetic reasons (another gorgeous throwaway image is a woman who has feathers on her head-- her "hair" is a pair of golden wings. Lovely.) or others. One of the major subplots focuses on Transients-- a community of people who have partially changed themselves into an alien bodytype. They don't get focused on in as much thought/depth as was gone into on the discussion board, as the plot mainly focuses on the main character, but it's still interesting. And I love Transmet dearly. There's a layer of ick to it, but it shines through and with and I'm going to stop trying to be poetic now. Just worth reading. Yeah.
