My work-schedule is awful; I was planning on doing so much with my half-day. Like making my apartment look presentable for my parents, who will be here tomorrow.
Instead, I ate lunch with L'ignota (yay!), read a lot of manga, and then sat down to write.
Tried to fix tense on first written section of the Fay Novel; it wasn't having any of it. Tried to write more in the Fay Novel. Wasn't having any of that, either. That particular scene with the small lord is done, and I don't think we'll see more of him for a while, though we'll certainly hear of him, and hear him.
I'm not ready to write Oberon yet (research into patent medicine and America in the 1800's, and the research for the C.S. Lewis essay comes first, plus he's not ready to show up yet). And Titania...I need more time to understand the world before I try letting her (one never makes Titania do anything) talk. So more Robin, I think, though I am not sure what to do with him as he is barely sure what to do with himself.
Tried to work on Tesla sestina. This went better; probably not suprising since I've been reading a lot lately (reading seems to improve writing; also the recent poetry probably helped). Revised a bit of first stanza, chopped most of first three lines of second stanza and revised.
Result:
First stanza still good. Thinking about keeping "branles" as what I remembered I was going for was a constantly-faster, circling, whirling motion, self-contained, and something like dancing, but also thinking about ditching it as no one knows what a "branle" is.
First half of second stanza much better. Meter and flow improved. Also somewhat more frank about what (I think) the poem is trying to get at. Second half of staza just as good and last two lines perfect as they ever were.
Sticking point: last word of third stanza, "tighten," which should act as transition word between newly-thematically-aligned halves of stanza. Tried editing. Tried rearranging existing text. Tried writing new line. Tried armor-girding metaphors. Did not work.
More writing later.
Possibly should have prepared for parents, but God I needed writing.
