This is a really fascinating idea.
The idea behind reading books and sharing them with people: you like a book, right? So you tell your friends about it. And you loan your book to them.

The idea behind BookCrossing: Loan the book to complete strangers. Have that book loaned to someone else. Have it loaned to someone else. And still get reactions to it, courtesy of a journal on the BookCrossing site, written by the people who found the book and logged in.

And even if you can't buy books and give them away, you can still participate in the program.

Wow. This sounds like a lot of fun. I don't have a lot of money, but when I do, I can think of at least three books which I need to buy for this program, because I think that truly everyone in the world should read them.

Jonathan Livingston Seagull - Richard Bach
Lives of a Cell: Notes of a Biology Watcher - Lewis Thomas
The Medusa and the Snail: More Notes of a Biology Watcher - Lewis Thomas

The two Lewis Thomas books both have excerpts, which I've linked directly to. Please, please read them.

And if you decide that you really like these books, let me know...I have a personal copy that I keep and another one that I loan out to friends.

I really need to write those couple of essays on Thomas that I've been thinking of writing. He's my favorite author, bar absolutely none.
