So, my mother just sent me an email containing an article on the Christian symbolism of the mythological creatures in the Harry Potter books.

[Poll #535131]

[Edit: the poll is supposed to say "Find other primary sources...."]

I think it'd be fun to find other primary sources, but I don't think you need to send them to your Mom.

I figure that finding other sources to contradict (and/or support) this article might be fun. Do that if you want to. Heck, write a paper on it, if you want to; there are certainly enough books on both sides of the question. ('Finding God In Harry Potter' vs. 'The Plot Against Our Children' grudgematch!) But I don't think you need to make your mom feel bad just because she's not enough of a mythologist to understand that the article she found is probably just a load of crappy pop theology.

I don't know, but I'd be interested in seeing the article. I know some things about mythology, some things about Harry Potter, and next to nothing about Christian symbolism.

Don't know anything about the article in question, but I actually thought the most recent book was very (to the point of being almost obviously) symbolic and/or patterened after . Don't want to give out spoilers, but I'll certainly be awaiting for the next book in order to test my hypothesis.
