The Rhyslings (Science Fiction Poetry Association's annual award) are at Readercon. Which is next weekend.

I just went to a con.
I have some money, but not a lot.
I write SF poetry and want to get to know the field a little better, especially as regards random smaller magazines which I probably will not have heard of but could be perfect venues for my stuff.

too many variables for me to decide. How much does it cost? How much spare money do you have? Would much travel be involved?

I agree that there are too many unknown factors for me to help with a decision like this; but I'd say, if it wouldn't put you out too much, and you had a way to make up the difference in funds, you should take the opportunity to go and find out more about what it takes to becoming a published writer, or a better writer than you already are.

Another "too many variables" vote. Are you in a position to make a day trip or two? A day membership, plus not having to spring for a hotel room, would allow you to attend the con on the Way Cheap. (Of course, I don't know how far distant the con is from you ...)

I know that [livejournal.com profile] kadyg and I went to Pantheacon for an evening and single overnight stay, and appreciated it a lot more than not going at all while keeping our combined spending in the two-digit range.
