For R, by request.

When he understood the ache that seeped into his bones day by day for what it was, he felt relief that he had given himself not entirely to cynicism: small stirrings of curiosity the proof were of that.

The boy who came to him in the swamps—glad he would be to leave soon that stink behind!—completed the curiosity. By it driven to see what the boy would, might, become, he began to teach again.

Uncertain of the boy he was still.

No time left to do. Only try.

900 years, and death came hard on each of them.

Huzzah! Much happiness and amusement, Thankee kindly! Sorry it took ages to realize you'd finished, been a bit internet-less for a bit over a week, and only just had a chance to get through lj backpostings.

Lovely~ and again, lovely.

Guess that puts me on the spot now, eh? *wanders off to add the challenge to her blog*

Did I ever tell you that the ballerina in Russian Ark is the actual contemporary ballerina so-&-so? (Of course I've forgotten her name) There are a number of other cameos as well, including the current directer of the Hermitage, etc., etc. All from an an article in a Slavic periodical all about the flick, including the name of the Marquis (real guy) who also wrote a book about his travels in Russia. Eeenteresting. Can I remember any of the names, or even the title of the book? HA! Will have to look it up again.
