Hi. Two unrelated livejournal questions:

I have a livejournal icon I want to post to my journal so others can see it. Is there some special LJ way of doing that, or is it just the regular "upload it and link to it like a regular image" deal?

How does one specify background colors for friends that aren't the standard "choose from these 20 or so colors" that they give you when you add a friend? All the friends I've added in the past two years or so now have ugly colors associated with them, because while I can figure out how to change all the other color settings on the S1 system, the ones on the friends page sidebar (where your user picture appears next to your post) are stored somewhere seperately. I originally defined the peachy/orangy color in HTML, I remember that much. I believe that my client let me do that. But I can't find the setting anymore. Thoughts from those who have customized their livejournal more than I?

I've looked all over the customization and friends page settings and FAQs because I do remember reading an article on this once, but I can't find it anywhere. And no one has answered my question in the support forum.

Thank you.

If it's uploading a userpic to be used on LiveJournal, go to Manage User Pictures and upload it. Alternatively, if you mean that you want to upload a picture f whatever and post it on LJ, you can either sign up for a PhotoBucket account to upload it (I recommend them because they allow linking from outer sources), or you can see if your account allows for LiveJournal Picture Hosting.

As for the colours that can be assigned to users, they are limited to the colours listed in the "add user" page, unless you have a paid account and override the colours completely (everyone would have the same colour though) using a personalised S1 or S2 stylesheet.

Ah, that you need to go to here and go to the second list. It'll show you the colours you have defined so far. Make a note of the ones that you want to change the BG colour to peach (you'll see them as the ones that have the white bg now, 'course), then type in those names in the form at the bottom and change the bg and fg colours accordingly.

Hmmm, this would be through the editting of the style itself, and changing the part of the HTML code that sets the bgcolor for that cell in the table from %%friendbgcolor%% to the hardcoded colour.

I use Semagic, and its Add Friend process lets you specify text & background colors with Windows' RGB custom color dialog.

Yes, you just double-click on their name in the "edit friends" window.

Oh. Was going to post some speculation, but since you have a real answer.... :)

Btw Eredien: I commented earlier today, while at work; why does LJ timestamp my comment as 3 AM?

They use a centralised clock for comments (but not for entries...).
