I am interviewing for a job here tomorrow, the position of executive secretary. I would make money while looking for jobs in Boston. Not that I've done a whole lot of that.

SyonaKeleste found a nice apartment in MA that opens in July.

I am a bit torn.

Wishing awfully I had my act more together and hadn't fought with my father this evening, and also that my later attempt at an explanation to him had not been utterly futile. I wish I had people around me who understood my jokes and didn't tax their brains with Wheel of Fortune.

Why can't I do anything?

Sunday was nice. There were limestone caves with fossils. If I ever get my real computer hooked up to the internet I can post pictures.
Bought "Hearts in Atlantis."

Good luck on getting the job. Executive secretary positions can be a good place to start. I'm almost wondering, if online friends could ever be used for references?

Look for jobs here!

jobs.boston.com has lots of postings, in just about whatever you can think of. They tend to say they want experience, but you can usually ignore this if they say they only want 2 or less.

jobs.harvard.edu also has lots of postings.

If you're going to interview for exectutive staff assistant type things, you might as well do so here.

You can do it.

What Weirdquark said! At worst, we can put you in touch with some temp companies.

I love you very, very much. You are one of my best friends, and I would never do or say anything to hurt you unless I thought it was absolutely necessary.

That said, you are a dorkface. A DORKFACE. You've said yourself that you don't want that job, every post you've made since moving back there has dripped with dissatisfaction, I've seen you turn into another person you're unhappy with when you go home, and just about everyone else in our strange miniature community is here. Come up here to find work. It's silly and inconsistent, when between jobs, to look for one in one place so that you can move to another.

We'll miss you if you settle in there, and I somehow doubt you won't miss us. And think about this rationally; it's not meant to be a guilt trip.

you can do plenty

Looking for work is not so much fun. We've talked about this. try www.idealist.org for service-oriented jobs- jobs with organizations trying to change something- many need people with good writing skills, and I think a girl with honors in English from Byrn Mawr qualifies for that. Pay's usually not fabulous, but with roommates it should be enough, and you'd be doing good, which I know matters to you. Also, you can try www.usajobs.opm.gov for jobs working for the fed. government, all over the place. May not have much you're interested/qualified for, but I thought I'd let you know. Also, I have two books I want to lend you- remind me when we go see Harry.
