Murphy's Law Day
29/3/04 10:51So, I go to bed at about 2:30 after working on my thesis and spending a random half-hour reading about John Kerry.
I expect to go to sculpture class in the morning, and need to, especially as I have an attendance record in that class that looks like a cheetah--spotty. To do this, I need to wake up before 8:10, or I will miss the bus. Set alarm for 7:45.
The alarm wakes me up at 8:14. I swear, and set it for nine. Cannot take car to sculpture class; men coming to replace windshield.
At least this way I will not feel like someone has driven a hammer into my head after I wake up and start working on the last three pages of my thesis that still must be written.
Alarm does not go off.
I wake up at 10:15. I swear some more and jump up and rush into the shower.
Get out of shower at 10:25 just in time to hear phone ring, and then stop. Listen to message. Man from windshield repair, keeping rescheduled appointment that we had to change once already.
I forgot to unlock the car and move it, because I was afraid that Public Safety would ticket me over the weekend had I not moved it. Swear. Put clothes on.
Replay message to get phone number--in doing so, miss new incoming call from windshield guy, who is leaving. Call phone number left on second message. Plead with receptionist to call windshield man and convince him I will be there as soon as I can go to Brecon.
Go to Brecon.
By this time it is quarter of 11.
Back up car, meet repair people. Apologize profusely. Repair men say, "what about check?" I make noises about insurance. They check. Insurance has, thankfully, paid.
Go back to dorm from Brecon. 11 am.
Cons:
No further work done yet on thesis.
Missed sculpture class again.
Must finish filling out double major paperwork today.
Must eat.
Still have work from one to five.
Pros:
Insurance paid for car repair.
Conclusion:
The universe is stacking the deck.
