I've found that building an ability to adapt and interperet confusing information is by reading (or being exposed to) information sources that are confusing. I don't mean to point out Anvil from Tlands, but there is a prime example (for me). Taking sources like that, and interpreting them yourself builds your ability to cope with either less than complete, or unclear info.

Language is an art form, it is relatively freestyle, even when you look at alternative syntax and intentional grammatical errors used in story to make a point. This change to the SAT isn't necessarily bad, so long as the young writers understand that what they're looking for isn't your ability to express a point artistically, but that you can do so in the rote fashion of essay in a way that is understandible by the slowest individual. Let the dumbing-down of America continue!

Since Swarthmore (I assume), uses things other than the SAT to determine eligibility, I would hope that Shakespeare had a better chance than the new SAT indicates. That said, I suppose that the idea is to standardize, and to do that, you have to go _down_ to the lowest common denominator, since the idiots can't go up.

And what do they mean, non-Standard syntax?! Sounded perfectly fine to me! :)
