The reason I post announcements is that I think many of the people who are on my friends list and would enjoy things like this may not always sign in to check their lj friends pages (they may be using a public computer lab or something of the sort, for instance) and so would totally miss the fact that I am posting a friends post unless I said something about it. Occasionally I've posted something important in friends-only posts in the past and people that I assumed would need to know the information didn't because they hadn't been signed in at the time. So I figured this was a good way of letting people know that something was up there they might want to sign in to read.
As to the "incentive" bit, that was the depression talking, worrying that no one would read anything. It was kind of catty and bitchy, and I apologize.
