I love Halloween. Also, I love the Annual Canaday Book Sale. 50¢ per book. I got something like twelve books for a total of six dollars. That's cheap!

Big Type, a typography example book "with designers' comments and analysis". These things cost like $50 in the store.

Traditional Japense Stencil Designs. Copyright-free drawings.

The Heroic Bylinas (Героические Былины), which is a book of folktales of some sort about the early Russians.

The Illustrated Man, Ray Bradbury. A classic. First Edition.

Crossings, a play about the fey by Walter De La Mare. With a color plate, music, and interior drawings.

Russian Tales and Legends, Charles Downing. Lots more to feed my fairytale addiction.

Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, with a beautiful old gilded cover and a neat bookplate and sketch inside.

Exotic Alphabets and Ornament, William Rowe. Principally for the beauty of the thing.

Thrice Told Tales, a collection of the world's folktales for scholars, with references. Beautifully designed in three colors.

Designs and Patterns from Historic Ornament, also okay for reproducing!

Five Colours of the Universe: Symbolism in clothes and fabrics of the Ch'ing Dynasty, John E. Vollmer. The title says it all!

A book featuring reproductions of Erte's clothing designs. So beautiful. Great captions. Droolable fabrics. Skye--I want you to see this book and be inspired.

Now I go to do work.

First editions? Wow. Chris might possibly go into ferret-shock at such a sale. Do they do this every Halloween? Is it open to the public? Should I make a note that your college library is a point of interest for any potential trip to Philadelphia? :)
