Well, I'm sure it happens. I don't know how much, given that cases where two people might want to share a pass involve them never or rarely traveling at the same time. Really though, it would be much simpler to just put the cost of any sharing into the price of a pass, which is presumably what New York and Boston do, since they don't make any effort to link them to individuals.
