eredien, I hope you'll forgive me for commenting here, as I'm not on your flist.

lotus_biosm, the difference between someone like me (Indian, of Hindu heritage), retelling the Crucifixion story, and someone like Nina Paley retelling the Ramayana, is one of power. Christianity was used as a colonial tool in India by the Portuguese and the British, and even now to some extent by Westerners. The reverse cannot be said. We always need to keep in mind the power differential when discussing these issues because otherwise we miss a crucial part of the puzzle.
