So, I'm glad I got some time off work. It looks like I will need it!
Yesterday on the way home from the grocery store the dashboard brake warnings on our car (R's and mine) came on. The break fluid was checked only a month ago and the lines were checked a few weeks before that as part of the inspection process. But now the break pedal is all mushy and the car doesn't want to stop. Due to the date, we can't find an open mechanic until Wednesday. Now R's parents have to drive to get us, and we have to take the (always late) commuter rail back home, because we can't drive to RI. Yippee. I was going to take it in to check the alignment anyway, but this is stupid.
So, I thought I would finish cooking and cleaning.
I made some squash soup. It's been cooking for a few hours and now needs to puree in the blender. I dump some soup into the blender and turn it on. It goes "grind grind grind" instead of "whir whir puree," so I sigh, dump the soup back into the crockpot, and look at the blender. It seems that the bottom turny part is turning fine, but the top turny part attached to the blades does not want to move for love or money. I know it didn't rust because I put it away last time after drying it!
EDIT: Blender now works, with help of jar-opener, pair of pliers, and a little bit of pleading on my part. Apparently part of the blender had rusted, but it's an all-in-one blade unit so I can't dry the part that was probably the issue. Eating lunch now. I feel better.
Our car doesn't work.
Our blender doesn't work.
I hope the rest of today is ok.

24/12/07 20:01 (UTC)i thought my blender was going to give up the ghost making pesto this afternoon, but we seem to have made it through.
i did get thwarted by lack of sufficient butter to make cookies for tomorrow (i decided to make cornbread instead) though. and i was all set to mop the sticky kitchen floor when i discovered the mop was dry (it's a swiffer wet-jet)
So, you're not alone, and it may just be one of those days. Best of luck!
(on a good note, my car didn't get ticketed when I accidentally left it on the street overnight last night....)

...
OK maybe not.
If it makes you feel any better, the brakes on my winter bike have gone
the way of the brakes on the car! Luckily I can stop the bike with my
legs, which doesn't work so well on the car.

24/12/07 21:44 (UTC)morning we are all set...
but we were probably going to leave Cranston at around 8 or 9, so if you
actually want to pick us up that would be _supremely awesome_. It would
be a little out of the way from Tiverton --- you'd hop on 195 and take
95 South to exit 16 and then I'd give you directions offline. Let us know
--- and either way, thanks!

26/12/07 21:22 (UTC)Sorry I didn't call on Sunday. I have some free time toward the end of this week. Perhaps you will, too? I will give it a try.
