Pie & Lizard
17/1/10 10:33(Please forgive the egregious Spice & Wolf reference. If you're into anime at all you have either probably heard of this show or probably ought to see it. It's a travelouge about medieval European economy and folklore and ritual. Yes,
lignota and
nineweaving and
sovay, I am looking at you!)
Today I got a leopard gecko. I have been waiting for a while to get one, and was torn between "gecko" and "fish," but have not had good luck with fish since highschool for some reason, and realized that a gecko would be massively easier to move than a tank of fish. She ate all 3 of the crickets I put in the cage tonight, so I'm a happy gecko mom. Here's a picture from the breeder (Beantown Reptiles), and here is a picture from me. It was nice to buy a gecko from a local reputable breeder instead of a petstore; the price was comparable and I felt happy that I was supporting a local business and getting a pre-raised gecko less prone to stress or sickness. I didn't really want to have to go back through the supply chain of Petsmart to find out where my reptile was coming from, as some of America's largest leagal reptile import-export wholesalers are customers of people who have been convicted of illegal wildlife trafficking and smuggling of critically endangered wildlife (through using their legitimate reptile sales as a front). So it was nice not to have to do all the paperwork checking I would have felt obligated to do at a chain petstore.
I also made a cheesecake pie with jasmine blossoms on it, and
lutriss and [Unknown site tag] helped me eat it with apple ice wine. Yum, pie.
