Okay, so I said that I wanted to finish what I started this year. And I have three different cross-stitches half-finished and don't know how to embroider.

But how else am I going to find out unless I do it this weekend and have my mom help teach me? I have the time, she has the time (at least theoretically) and the world's greatest crewel pattern: it's from the 60's and cute, with one of those peasanty-type birds on it. Doublestar Masquerade Ball, here I come!

Other discoveries of today: drawing a comic is hard when you try to do a proof. Eating with chopsticks when your mouth hurts is a good idea. (Thanks, Sai!)I had a sudden craving to read the comic "The League of Extraordinary Gentlement" at four this morning. And I have no idea how to draw on a flat bit of paper a three-dimensional wrap-around tattoo.

Wahoo!

Now, normally, I find LotR takeoffs to be bad.
These are good.

I knew Tolkien was a Beowulf scholar. I wondered why someone hadn't published his stuff on it from time to time--when I saw Gwain and the Green Knight, for example, at the bookstore.

It's been kept in a box in Oxford all this time, apparently...it's going to be published soon if there is any justice in the world at all. And Christopher Tolkien has nothing to do with it.

Read. Jan. 1st, 2003.
