First: there is graffiti on Pem Arch. And on the inside of Pem West. And one of Haffner's glass doors was broken. My apologies to Wayman, but I can't believe that Swat admitted these stupid frat boys. Or that the BMC social comittee invited them here. My college, my home, is bleeding Kappa Omega in red paint.
Second: I would like to hear what you all think is a perfect word, or if you have any concepts that need a word and don't have one. Perfect words are ones you hear, and go, "hey, I never knew there was a way to express that feeling before in a word or phrase. But the word is perfectly suited to the sense. The sound is right. It's a perfect word." It does not have to be a 'real' word. (Though, in some sense, I think all perfect words are real.)
My small list of perfect words:
- Tochno. Russian. Usually translated as "sadness" but is more "melancholy" or "the feeling you get when you look out a window and feel deeply sad for no reason."
- Yap Bada. Japanese. I am not sure if I spelled it right. It means something roughly equivalent to "that's the way it is because that thing has the quality of acting like that." It really needs to be used in context.
- Karimislan. If you want to know about this word, ask.
- Oira.[ OY raa ] A vision or object seen through the stillness of water. Not usually literal, this tends to indicate a truth that cannot usually be seen because it is obscured by movement (like the currents of a stream), but which has been revealed in a second's quiet. From M.C.A. Hogarth's Jokkad stories.
Post. Add your own. The world needs more perfect words.
