Books I'm too Cheap to Buy

These were the titles that caught my eye at the Harvard Bookstore the other day; I'm writing them down here so I don't forget. I tend to make lists of books and find them years later, all still unread and all still fascinating.

I did buy two, before you accuse me of the heinous crime of Not Supporting my Local Independent Bookstore: Evening in the Palace of Reason: Bach and Frederick the Great in the Age of Enlightenment (review to follow soon, it's a good one) and a $1 copy of the entire unabridged paperback edition of Les Miserables. Now I can finally get past the halfway point!

The list: Heavy Words, Lightly Thrown (the history of Nursery Rhymes)
Divided Kingdom (a city segregated into the four humors)
The Carpet Makers (a German SF novel which looked really amazing)
House & Home in Modern Japan (dealing with about 1890 to now)
Treehouses of the World (sold out)
Mix Tape (the history thereof)
God's Secretaties (the people who made the King James Bible)
Fresh Fruits (photo book of people in Japan's Harajuku and the way they dress)
Girl Sleuth (story of woman who wrote Nancy Drew books, one of my first early series loves)
Jonathon Strange & Mr. Norrell (finally out in paperback)

Also, for those of you in the area, Terry Pratchett is giving a reading at 7 pm on Sept. 16th for free. It's not at the bookstore, but info can be found, I am assured, at their website: www.harvard.com.
