So, my dad did find that some computer guy he knew had the correct motherboard; they estimated some money for the board and about half-an-hour of labor.
I brought the computer there yesterday and they said they'd call me; I expected a call today which I didn't get. So I called them. Apparently the used motherboard they had there didn't work after all (I gather it was something of a longshot to begin with; it was just that they seemed so hopeful that it would work and I got my hopes up) and they have to order in the motherboard which will take a few days, and then install it, and then hopefully everything will work.
Decided to postpone cat's surgery because:
- The lump does not feel any worse
- If it does get worse later I can do the surgery later
- I can't help take care of her after surgery if I move and would rather not leave parents to look after cat after surgery seeing as how they cannot get correct brand of cat food.
Recently watched Shaun of the Dead and Hellboy with Aaron during the semi-blizzard of this weekend; both movies come recommended. Hellboy is basically a movie of the 'pretty good comic book adaptation' variety, reminding me a lot of the X-Men movie. Shaun of the Dead, an English film, is hilarious; it answers the questions "why doesn't anyone ever notice when their town is overrun by zombies?" and "is it a law of the universe that the wrong song always comes on at the wrong time?" Specifically, I think it was made for Angstnokami to see.
In other movie news: Gaiman and McKean's Mirrormask is premiering at the Sundance Film Festival this weekend, I hear, and those tv spots for Constantine look by turns great and awful. Some of the dialog seems worthy of John, but whoever had the bright idea of casting Keanu Reeves as Constantine should be shot.
I hope everyone who got hit by snow is ok. I am really glad I did not pick last weekend to move, and will call you all presently with ideas on when I can move in. My grandmother's birthday party is this Sunday, which I would like to stick around for, so I am aiming for sometime next week or weekend after next at the latest.
