The funny thing is one time Ben and I discussed Job and he boiled it down to "G-d and Satan having a pissing contest with Job as their pawn". Terribly depressing to think about. I really prefer to think of it as an allegorical story because I don't believe a deity should be "allowed" to be sadistic.
