The differing perspectives as well as the comments of others made it very thought provoking.
It reminded me of one of our admin assistant's husbands who is Jewish and professes to follow the dietary laws. At one of our section pot-luck dinners he attended and was questioning every dish as to its contents (His wife brought food that she knew he could eat too). We were stunned when we saw him pick up a bacon-wrapped jalapeno. One person made sure to tell him that it had bacon on them. He acknowledged the fact with a smile and started to take a bite when the person said that it was made from pigs. He said, "Nonsense! Bacon is bacon!" as he popped it into his mouth and savored the flavor as well as the heat. We all looked at his wife as he walked off to see what other culinary delights he could partake of. She explained that he had a weakness for bacon and no one has ever been able to convince him that bacon was made from pigs. To him, bacon was simply... bacon.
Can a vegan diet also be kosher? From what I know I think that the answer would be yes, but I suspect that you know more about vegan cuisine than I do.
