Words

First: there is graffiti on Pem Arch. And on the inside of Pem West. And one of Haffner's glass doors was broken. My apologies to Wayman, but I can't believe that Swat admitted these stupid frat boys. Or that the BMC social comittee invited them here. My college, my home, is bleeding Kappa Omega in red paint.

Second: I would like to hear what you all think is a perfect word, or if you have any concepts that need a word and don't have one. Perfect words are ones you hear, and go, "hey, I never knew there was a way to express that feeling before in a word or phrase. But the word is perfectly suited to the sense. The sound is right. It's a perfect word." It does not have to be a 'real' word. (Though, in some sense, I think all perfect words are real.)

My small list of perfect words:
- Tochno. Russian. Usually translated as "sadness" but is more "melancholy" or "the feeling you get when you look out a window and feel deeply sad for no reason."
- Yap Bada. Japanese. I am not sure if I spelled it right. It means something roughly equivalent to "that's the way it is because that thing has the quality of acting like that." It really needs to be used in context.
- Karimislan. If you want to know about this word, ask.
- Oira.[ OY raa ] A vision or object seen through the stillness of water. Not usually literal, this tends to indicate a truth that cannot usually be seen because it is obscured by movement (like the currents of a stream), but which has been revealed in a second's quiet. From M.C.A. Hogarth's Jokkad stories.

Post. Add your own. The world needs more perfect words.

Don't worry, no offense taken. I have an extremely negative opinion of Swat, in general and with certain aspects (like frats). One of these days, I may launch into some of those rants, but I'm not distant enough from the emotions to write well about them yet.

"Pfütze" - puddle
"Macht" - power
"doch" - a positive response to a negative statement - it's very useful, and English doesn't have one!
(all those were German)
--There was a word in Schwäbisch that means the feeling you get when you've been out in the cold a long time and then your hands hurt, but I can't remember it. It was a good word, though.

'Yappari' is the preferred Romanization, though yours works OK given the interchangeability of 'p' and 'b' and 'v' in Japanese.

The one I'm really fond of is French, 'l'esprit d'escalier', or 'the spirit of the staircase', which means that feeling you get when somebody completely outmaneuvers you in a conversation and any time from a couple of hours to a couple of days later you suddenly realize what the exactly perfect and witty thing to say to them that would have fixed everything would have been, if only you had thought of it at the time, but it is now too late.

I like 'kestra'chern,' but that's mostly because it's a word that I had to search for because I needed it.

Another one of my favorites is the German word for feeling good when bad things happen to others, especially those you dislike. I think it's 'schedenfreude' but I could be wrong.

There are a few other made up ones I like, but I can't think of a really good one right now.

It's Schadenfreude - I like that one, too!

Grrr...

Dammit; I hope they decide to press charges. I love BMC dearly, but I'm especially defensive of the place I chose to propose to Sei. If BMC doesn't press charges, then I want to personally hunt down every one of these idiots and beat a little sense into them, since obviously common courtesy is lost on them.

Never in my life have I ever felt so proud to be a bona fide frat-reject. Mind you, I don't know what ever possessed me to interview with one in the first place, but they didn't even invite me to rush. I've decided to take that as a compliment.

Tranquility seems to sum up what it means to me.

dolor - Latin, pain/grief. I'm not quite sure why I chose that one.

I'd reply to the earlier part, but I don't really know anything about it.

Aww, stupid frat people, always ruining things for everyone else.

As for words...

petaQ!!!

Prononuced "Peh-tak!"

Its a Klingon curse word for cowards and the dishonored or the disguisting. It seems to fit :P
