PA no longer requires SRS for Driver's License Changes

Yay. PA no longer requires transsexual people to get SRS before changing the gender designation on their drivers' licenses.
I am actually a little suprised this happened in PA, as its politics are sometimes contentious, with Philadelphia itself being a little contentious and Philadelphia vs. the Rest of PA also being differently contentious. But they did the right thing!

Hm. I wonder what the purpose of a gender designation on a license is.

If it's to help identify the person, then clearly it should be what the person LOOKS like... although, even there, surely the photo does a better job.

I'm actually not sure what other purpose it could have.

Yeah, PA is a strange mix of liberal and conservative, so unexpected things happen. It looks like this was an executive rather than legislative decision, which probably made it easier. Now if SEPTA would just stop requiring the stupid gender stickers on transit passes... (this will actually help with that for some people who've had problems from them, but not all).
