Busy Weekend

So far this weekend, I have:
Gone to the doctor's office

Called my sister

Made the following Thanksgiving dishes:
- Vegan macaroni & cheese from the Veganomicon
- [livejournal.com profile] gaudior's yams with pears (thank you! Also, immersion blenders are amazing!)
- Mushroom-port gravy from the Veganomicon
- [livejournal.com profile] snaegl's pumpkin pie (I substituted vegan yogurt for eggs and it didn't come out as fluffy as I wanted, but I grated my own spices so it was delicious anyway. Had a problem with the oil pie crust sticking to the parchment paper and had to press it in by hand but it was tasty).
- Olive cashew bread scrolls from Bread Machine (delicious!)
Then we went to [livejournal.com profile] rax's family's place and played Beatles Rockband and drank a delicious lychee sake that [livejournal.com profile] rathdei found, and ate waay too much delicious food. Rathdei, do you remember the name?

Hiked for 3 h in Middlesex fells w/ [livejournal.com profile] ab3nd. "How do you get to the parking lot? Follow the orange trail. It's about 20m." 60 m later, Googling a map: "Hm. That....that would be another 3 h of walking." Eventually we did get back to the parking lot.

Made 2 kinds of fudge (vanillia and chocolate-marshmallow) and one kind of thing that should have been penuche fudge w/nuts but instead became caramel due to a cooling error. Oops.

Put up massive amounts of Christmas lights.

Watched a great movie ("Heathers") w/[livejournal.com profile] rax.

Ordered new clogs since my old ones got a mysterious huge hole in the bottom and getting new ones is $20 cheaper than having the shoe repair place fix the old ones.

Yay!

Immersion blenders are awesome

Seconded. Vegetarian times said that an immersion blender was the one small kitchen tool that EVERYONE needed this year.

You can call my by my name if you like. I don't mind, it's just a name : )

Also, it was called Tozai Snow Maiden. It has a fish on it.

I rather like caramel...
Sounds like a spiff weekend except perhaps the doctor's office part, unless you were there just to cheer people up.

That food sounds delicious! Also, the vegan Chinese cookbook I said I would tell you the title of ages ago and forgot is "Authentic Chinese Cuisine for the Contemporary Kitchen" by Bryanna Clark Grogan.

Ooh, thanks for pointing out the mac and cheese recipe. We finally got around to making that tonight and it was *so* good. :)
