I don't know if this is useful or relevant, but have you looked into whether there's a partly nutritional component of the problem? Vitamin D deficiencies can cause memory problems for example. And Omega-3 fatty acids (especially DHA -- which you can now get vegan versions of from algae) and B12 are both important to mental functioning.
I'm not sure that this would turn up anything, but it might be worthwhile to go to a doctor or nutritionist and request some blood tests. What you're describing might have some cause beyond just lack of mental exercise. And the nutritional explanation might be a long-shot, but it might be worth looking into, because if it turns out that there's a supplement that could resolve some of this, it would be fantastic.
